I downloaded the book Animal Kingdom (Big Cats Of The World) 2nd grade geography series to read to my five year old daughter who is obsessed with cats of all shapes and sizes. She absolutely loved everything about the book. The beautiful detailed real life pictures were probably her favorite part of the book. The contents and information in the book was very interesting and well written as well, it all flowed together nicely. It covers seven different big cats; the leopard, the cougar, the jaguar, the snow leopard, the lion, the cheetah, and the Tiger. From an adults prospective (I know this book was not attended for adults that why the star rating is not affected by this opinion) I wish they would of covered more unique unheard of big cats.
I realize this book is intended for children of a second grade reading level to read independently and I was pleasantly surprised that this book uses words that would be successfully read by a child with a second grade reading level. I have found a lot of times books that are based on facts are written with words that are too hard for a child of the level they are advertising that the book is intended for could read successfully. This book achieved that goal by far. (I do have an education background)
All in all this book defiantly deserves a full five star rating!!!!

I love the 1 subject approach to teaching a subject. I homeschool 3 of my 5 kids and we enjoy studying 1 subject deeply before moving on. So this book was perfect. Both my children older than 2nd grade and my children younger than that age loved this book. What did they love?
1. They loved the pictures. These 7 cats are beautiful creatures and baby professor does a great job with beautiful pictures to accompany the information in the book. Every information page has a beautiful picture of the big cat and is followed by a full page picture of that cat. I can't truly describe the richness and vibrancy of these pictures so I am showing an example of the pictures.
2. They loved the information. I heard "I didn't know that" throughout the reading of this short book. My daughter decided the snow leopards are her favorite big cat and ran off to research more about these beautiful cats.
3. The third thing that I loved as a mom is that this book was thought provoking. They began discussing the animals native lands and discussing things like "how fast is the fastest cat?" We discussed them based on what the book stated but also went to the Internet to answer our other questions. To me this is exactly what an introduction book should do.
Throughout all of the information of this short book my only suggestion would be I wished they would have defined the word "carnivores" and "apex predators" that were mentioned on the introduction page. Other than that this book was wonderful and I would highly recommend this!

Animal Kingdom (Big cats of the World) 2nd grade geography series. Warning this review contains spoilers. I like this book. This book discuses seven species of big cats. The pictures are great. The first page defines the term big cats. The definition provided is accurate and simple enough for second graders to understand. From here going forward we are introduced to different types of big cats.
Tigers, Tigers are the larges species of big cats. There is a great description of tigers that list some of their special characteristics, and we they have included excellent high quality pictures of tigers. I think the pictures alone will prompt good discussions with young kids. I know my young children liked talking about what the cats were doing in each of the pictures.
The next cat we learn about is the cheetah. The fact they give about the cheetah being the fastest land animal is the most common fact presented about cheetahs. I wish they had given us more facts, but this is a good place to start.
Lions, we are told about the habitat of lions.
The snow leopard, I am glad they chose to include this lesser known cat. We are told that this cat is native to mountain ranges in Central and southern Asia. Again the pictures they included with the description are great.
Jaguar, the jaguar are the third largest cat species. I didn’t know much about jaguars so I found the facts presented to be interesting.
Cougars, cougars are commonly known as mountain lions. we are told that cougars are ambush predators, and that they pursue a variety of prey.
Lastly we learn about leopards. The range described for leopards is huge. I received this kindle e-book for free, (at the time of my review it is free to everyone,) in exchange for my honest review.
