We huddled together around the table, terrified of what was to come. Though we had been warned, the reality of what was happening was almost more than we could bear. We violently pressed our hands to our ears to block the sounds from those outside, but we could not keep from hearing their screams. The sound of fingernails clawing desperately at the sides of the ark went through us like a knife blade. Nothing could be worse than this, I thought. But it did get worse. I began to hear familiar voices. The cries of strangers were harrowing enough, but now I could hear the shouts of my mother’s sister and her son. When my wife, Tamara, heard her mother’s voice, she could stand no more. …and so begins The Rain… a fictional but Biblically accurate account of a popular story of the Old Testament. The Rain is a fast moving novel of suspense and romance, mystery and intrigue, failure and success; answering the question “What might it have been like for Noah and his family as they embarked on the journey of a lifetime?” What others are saying about The Rain “I could not put it down… though based upon a familiar story of Noah's Ark, this book tells the story like no other… " "The Rain is truly refreshing… the author creatively tells a story of the challenges, drama, and humor that COULD have occurred on the ark." “The Rain is a must read… Biblical characters are brought to life in a compelling drama that will captivate the reader from start to finish" “This book is amazing… it will change the way you see things… making you feel like you were there… identifying with the characters" First place winner of the Historical category from The Christian Choice Book Awards.

The Biblical account of Noah building an ark, living on it during the flood, and eventually returning to dry land is a story perhaps remembered as early as childhood but never pondered upon to an extent this novel will free you to. Yes, this is a novel however it will stretch you to gain an awareness that Noah and his family, like us, deal with intense emotions, doubts, fears, and memories that would challenge along a lifetime.

This incredible book, which will keep you glued to your seat, will take you into the personalities of these 8 individuals as they escaped a sin laden society and found their home in the ark for 371 days. From start to finish God's providential hand of protection and provision was there-a testament that when God calls you to do something He provides and equips along the way. The memories of the past will sting each character in a private way including mourning those that died in sin.

The journey on the ark will test them to the core, reveal their character and fears fully, but, ironically at the same time, merge them closer than ever. From Noah's plea to the community all the way through God's successive directives to Noah in the ark and then finally out, it's a story that will solidify your faith and make you want to fully obey the Lord despite seemingly contradictory circumstances.

This novel is a purposeful one, and more than that of entertaining reading;rather, it is one that captures the events of the time and tries to draw out events that really could have happened that was not included in the Bible. I am an avid Noah's Ark fan and was intriqued by this book account of the supposedly everyday life of Noah and all of his family on the ark - before, during and after! It was written like an ordinary family would have handled a situation like that. I really enjoyed the book.
I loved, loved, loved this book! I'd never given much thought before to what it might have been like for Noah and his family, during the building of the ark and subsequently living on it for so long! Awesome concept, brilliantly written, I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone with even a little curiosity about the subject matter.
Finished reading this book last week. I wasn't really sure what to expect, other than it was a fictional work on the flood. I found this book to be very well-written and makes you think about what things may well have been like for Noah and his family aboard the ark. It made me think about how they may have felt in the time leading up to the flood and coping with their journey on the ark. I highly recommend this book.
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live on the ark?
Well Chris Skates answered it. I love his imaginationI could see everything
he wrote about Noah and his family. I loved this book. Everyone needs to read it.
Chris Skates story The Rain is a terrific story told from within Noah's Ark. A view from the perspective of those who were saved from the flood and how they dealt with God's adventure for them. A creative story of how God's plan took care of the logistics of such a huge undertaking. A good old story told through the eyes of the passengers of the Ark. A good read!
Not the cute cartoonish depiction we see more often than not... this story shows you various angles of the story that changed the world. Noah's loneliness of knowing what was coming, the despair of what to tell his family when, the exhaustion that had to come after 120 years of backbreaking work while being the object of ridicule of so many... Read the Bible version first if you've forgotten ... then read this book. Be prepared to be shown a whole other side of the story, the deeper issues that we aren't shown in the short Bible telling but things that are worth thinking about.

When I was a child and sat at my daddy's knee, he would read me wonderous stories of Noah, David and Goliath and the life of Jesus. When, in my childishness, I would ask him questions about the flood, or the giant or the man who walked on water, he would, in his vast imagination, answer all.
This book of Noah and his sons took me back to that innocent time. My dad could have been telling this story. I enjoyed the imaginary and what seemed the impossible. Noah and his sons became people who were real. They hurt, they cried, they feared. They were brought to life in this book as they haven't been before. I would recommend this for all ages for I was a child when the stories were read to me.The Rain
